Our Masters in Comics & Graphic Novels is the only course of its kind in the UK
This course will provide you with an understanding of the comics medium and industry and its relation to different genres and cultures across various media. You will think critically about these ideas and relate analysis of style and form to theory, context, politics and history.
You will also develop your own comics practice, where you'll learn everything from script writing, thumbnails, pencils, inks, lettering, colouring and production methods.
The course has close links with industry and our expert staff are involved in making comics, researching comics and organising major comics conferences. Guest speakers on the programme have previously included Dave Gibbons (Watchmen), Frank Quitely (Batman & Robin) and Cam Kennedy (Star Wars).
Graduates have gone on to enjoy huge success in the industry, with alumni credits including work for US and Canadian publishers such as Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse Comics, Chapterhouse Comics, Titan Comics, 2000AD, Judge Dredd Magazine and Boom! Studios.
"I really liked learning about the history of comics on the course. In particular, the module on autobiographical comics emphasised how comics are able to offer a different perspective from film and books. I've always been drawn to comics (even though we didn't have anything like the Beano where I grew up in the States) and I always drew on the side. I never thought I'd be able to do it as more than a hobby."
